How do I check for a water leak? Turn every tap off, read the meter, wait an hour without using water, and read it again.
Free, two minutes: Simple plumbing checks, 3 minutes.
The meter test
Make sure nothing is using water: taps, toilets, washing machine, irrigation. Write down the meter reading, or take a photo. Wait an hour without using any water. If the numbers have moved, water is escaping somewhere.
Common culprits
A toilet that keeps running, a dripping tap, a weeping flexi hose under a sink, or a pipe in a wall or underground. A wet patch in the yard or a damp wall can point to where.
Who to call
Almost all plumbing work in Queensland needs a licensed plumber. Burst pipe or water spraying: turn the water off at the meter and call one now.
Need it done? Send photos of the job, no account needed, or call 0458 381 559. Linc Point arranges licensed local trades from Bribie Island to Helensvale, including Logan, Ipswich and Redlands.
